We commend the New York Times for promptly changing its headline shortly after being contacted by HonestReporting. The new headline now reads:

nyt180116ii

* * *

In the space of 48 hours, Israeli mother of six, Dafna Meir, 38, was fatally stabbed in her home in Otniel. Only a day later, Michal Froman, 30, and five-months pregnant, was stabbed while shopping in Tekoa. Froman and her unborn child, mercifully survived.

The New York Times chose to report on these events with the following headline:

nytimes180116

What exactly were these “exchanges of violence?”

Was it an exchange of violence when Dafna Meir bravely fought off her attacker to protect her children? Or perhaps when Israeli security forces neutralized the Palestinian who stabbed Michal Froman?

Palestinians stabbing innocent Israeli women and Israeli forces taking action against the terrorists are not morally equivalent and cannot constitute an “exchange of violence.”

The New York Times article itself doesn’t refer to any specific exchange of violence so why does it appear in the headline?

A request to amend the headline has been sent to the New York Times. Watch this space.
